“Made In Egypt” or MIE is a University-Industry linkage program
founded and organized by IEEE Egypt GOLD affinity
group, that aims at bridging the gap between the academic community – including
both research and educational sectors – and the industrial community. Our contribution
lies mainly in creating suitable models of cooperation between both communities
that enrich the national industry and production and lift up the academic standards
to create a better impact on the industrial and economical development in Egypt.
MIE has been organizing Made In Egypt (MIE) Undergraduates Competition since
2005 where students from all over the Egyptian Engineering universities compete
with their peers with their graduation projects. The target is to bring the best
out of them and to make use of these projects by helping the students to link their
projects to the real needs of the industrial world. MIE is holding this competition
for the 8th year in a row. Having positively influenced the ideology that the industry
can get its solution from the university, MIE in its 8th round for the academic year
2012-2013 is now focusing on bringing out the best quality possible for prototypes
that students implement as their graduation products.
Our Vision
“To participate in Enriching the national industry and production by shedding light
on Research and Development capabilities in Egyptian universities to tackle real
industrial needs and problems, foster business-oriented results, and develop prototypes
for new products with the signature Made In Egypt.”

The competition module was initially benchmarked against a similar program at the
University of Florida and has been held for 6 years in form of Competition with
a goal to create a link between the industry and university through graduation projects
of the senior year students in Engineering & Computer Science universities. A project
to be admitted to the MIE Competition, it has to be sponsored by a non-Academic
organization and the team of students have to solve an industrial problem or introduce
a new product to the market - [Statistics]:
- In 2005 – 2006, we succeeded in attracting 9 universities, they participated
with 34 projects. - In 2006 – 2007, the number of participating projects increased substantially

Over our 7 years of running the program, the MIE model has been changing from year
to year according to the dynamic market perspective, and constant change of the
industrial and academic communities to cope with the new needs and requirement from
both sides.
Think…Plan…Act!
With a culture that aims towards fast action and fast implementation, we at MIE
have adopted a common belief that to add value and positively change something,
implementation should come second to planning. Good planning
leads to the optimum utilization of time, efforts, and resources. To achieve good
planning techniques, you need to have a solid idea or target to achieve, hence comes
the thinking part.
Build your team, and come join us where we will guide you through while you Think
… Plan … and Act successfully on your project!
What we do ?
- MIE is acting as a networking hub between industrial entities, and academic institutions.
All activities running in MIE are towards those two sides by:- Searching for industrial entities with needs and willingness to sponsor undergraduate
teams, and make sure that there will be real added value to the both parties. - Linking those companies to teams with a specific level of capabilities and skills.
- Giving the needed coordination, support and mentorship for the teams to carry out
their graduation project. - Organizing special/ customized trainings for students to some of non-technical skills
that they might lack. - Connecting the project’s sponsor company and linking them to the academic partner
presented in the supervising professor. - Partnering with entities that have similar vision/programs to support IUL, and innovation
in Egypt.
- Searching for industrial entities with needs and willingness to sponsor undergraduate
-
One major event of the MIE program to achieve this is through organizing “MIE
Competition for Undergraduates” which runs every year since 2005.
